Photo Series of the Day: From photographer Traer Scott’s Shelter Dogs — a photo book featuring black-and-white portraits of homeless and abandoned dogs living in shelters across America.

By documenting the undeniable expressions of emotion in the dogs encountered in her volunteer work, Scott raises awareness of animal rescue causes, and especially the need for more adoptive homes for abandoned dogs.

Scott donates a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of each book to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

This is such an amazing cause. My wife and I hate and love going to the animal shelter or when they post up outside of PetCo or Petsupermarket because we want to take them all home with us. There is truly nothing like the companionship and love you receive from a dog (i am not much of a cat person) and far too often dogs in shelters are overlooked because they are not “pretty” or cute. But these dogs have so much love to give it’s amazing. As some of my followers should know I own a beagle and a yorkie (my wife’s) the beagle I purchased from a breeder but we found the yorkie on the street. We have already decided that as soon as we move into our house with a yard we will adopt as many dogs as we realistically can. I suggest if you are looking for a companion/pet/friend/responsibility lesson for the kids please consider adopting.
